Dear […],
I thought I would write and let you know about my situation. At home it has grown ugly. V., the Landlord tried to kick me out and I fell for it in the beginning and went on a manic search for a new place. Sold stuff. Threw a lot in the dumpster down the street and moved some of my furniture to my friend’s house.
But then I met someone that told me that V. had no right to throw me out. (He really wanted to throw me out, telling me “we want you gone.”)
I came to realize that I have rights as a tenant and have since filed a formal complaint with the Housing Department. V. has received an official notice that he cannot evict me. There is a moratorium on evictions now in Los Angeles.
And I had the Building and Safety Dept (all government agencies) come over to the place and inspect. V. has never registered the unit as a rental so they sent him a Code Violation. It is registered as a servant’s quarter’s and not as a rental unit. So now V. has a code violation that he must remedy and in order to do so he must formally evict me. And if he does this then I will qualify for relocation assistance. And this could be a substantial amount of money. […]
If by chance all this is resolved by September then I could see a much-desired trip to Berlin.
